TEKNO’s Shane van Gisbergen drove his V.I.P. Petfoods Holden Commodore to a dominant win in Race 12 of the 2014 V8 Supercars Championship held at Pukekohe Park Raceway just outside Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday to give Lucas Oil its first official V8 Supercars race win.

Starting fourth, Van Gisbergen had a strong start was quickly going went head-to-head with fellow Kiwi and polesitter Scott McLaughlin before taking the lead on lap 8 of the 35 lap, 100km contest.

Van Gisbergen stretched his lead out to over four seconds, but once a fast charging Mark Winterbottom passed McLaughlin with six laps to go he was able to cut the margin to just 0.3s when the chequered flag finally fell.

“To win in front of my hometown crowd in the V.I.P. Petfoods Commodore is great, and to do it on Lucas Oil’s first weekend with the TEKNO team makes it even more special,” Van Gisbergen said.

His win followed a second place result in Friday’s first 100km race (Race 10), a fifth in Saturday’s first race (Race 11) and Sunday’s 200km final earning the popular Kiwi third overall for the weekend – and moving him to fifth overall in series points.

The success for Van Gisbergen in the V.I.P. Petfoods Commodore follows the team’s wins in last year’s Clipsal 500 and Sydney 500 in which the TEKNO team used Lucas Oil Products.

Van Gisbergen’s next outing will be the fifth round of the championship, the Perth 400, at Barbagallo Raceway, near Perth in Western Australia on 16-18 May.
