Warrnambool Sprintcar driver Jamie Veal has continued his golden run with another big title coming his way.

On Sunday night at Allansford’s Premier Speedway, Veal rode off into the night on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, a reward for sustained excellence over the Easter weekend.

Veal finished first on the points table for the Easter Sprintcar Trail. Over three nights, Veal accrued 610 points to win from Albury driver Grant Anderson on 605.

The Easter Sprintcar Trail began on Good Friday at Avalon Raceway before moving to Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier on Saturday and finally to Premier Speedway on Sunday.

South Australian driver Steven Lines dominated the first two nights, notching up a maximum 440 points thanks to two victories.

Veal kept Lines in sight, a second at Avalon and then a third at Borderline, having him just 15 points behind heading into night three. 

Warrnambool’s James McFadden and Sydney’s Ian Loudoun were a further 15 points behind.

Lines went into night three not only with the Harley Davidson in sight but also a $10,000 bonus for any driver who could win all three feature races over the weekend.

But Lines qualified in eighth for the Sunday feature race with Veal in second. McFadden was keeping his hopes alive, grabbing first spot on the starting grid.

The unpredictably of sprintcar racing came to the fore, the 30-lap feature race producing plenty of excitement and drama.

Lines had started the race well and midway through had worked his way up to sixth place. But his chance at glory was shattered when engine trouble forced him out of the race.

McFadden and Veal were enjoying a titanic struggle at the head of the field before the two tangled on turn two. This resulted in front end damage to McFadden’s car, forcing him out of the race while Veal was relegated to the rear of the field for the re-start with 12 laps to go.

Anderson seized the opportunity, driving an impressive race to cross the line first.

Darren Mollenoyux, Jack Lee, Luke Dillon and John Vogels made up the remainder of the top five.

Veal finished eighth and collected 185 points, enough to be named the overall weekend winner.

The win was another highlight in a successful season for Veal, following on from his win in the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. Veal is the first Warrnambool-based driver to win the Classic.
