Lucas Oil Sprintcars to descend upon Sungold Stadium this weekend

Lucas Oil Sprintcar drivers are expected to shine at Warrnambool’s Sungold Stadium twin feature night, with Ian Madsen, Jamie Veal, James McFadden, Daniel Petska, John Vogels and American Kyle Hirst all shooting for a win.

Reigning Knoxville Track Champion Madsen is aiming to take his second victory of his 2014/15 Australian campaign after winning at Ausdeck Archerfield Speedway last weekend in the D&B Goodyer Developments/Lucas Oil KCP Sprintcar.

“It was good to get some laps in before Christmas and it was really cool to get the win,” Madsen said.

“It was the first night with everyone, so we weren’t expecting much but we were on the pace from the get go.

“My car owners Darren and Belinda Goodyer have done a great job making sure everything is identical to what I am running in America and I’m working with a great crew chief in Dave Sharman.”

However, Madsen knows he will have to up his pace to beat an in-form local SWI Engineering/ Lucas Oil racer Jamie Veal, who has won six from seven starts this season and is the defending Warrnambool champion.

“Warrnambool is a completely different animal to Archerfield, and it’s a track I haven’t been great at in the past,” Madsen said.

“Veal is the benchmark this year, so if we can be running with him, I’ll know we’re on the right path.”

This weekend is Madsen’s only appearance at the regional Victorian track ahead of the 2015 Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.

Queenslander James McFadden returns from a whirlwind tour of New Zealand, taking part in the International Sprintcar Series.  This weekend’s Twin Feature night sees Western Australian based Monte Motorsports’ return to the east, with Californian Kyle Hirst chasing his first win with the Milwaukee Tools/Lucas Oil team.

Victorian John Vogels and South Australian Daniel Petska will also take part in the unique format representing Lucas Oil, which sees qualifying drivers take part in two 20-lap A-Mains, one with an inverted grid.

The Twin Feature night is the second round of Warnambool’s Track Championship with racing from 5pm on Saturday night.
