LucasOil.com.au (May 13, 2015) - Lucas Oil’s Shane van Gisbergen says the goal for TEKNO Autosports at this weekend’s Winton SuperSprint is simple – to maximise points and return to the front of the V8 Supercars field.

Van Gisbergen comes off the back of a mixed weekend in Perth, but said he is encouraged with the consistent, strong pace of the #97 Darrell Lea STIX Commodore.

“We’ve had really good pace all year, we just need to go back to collecting points,” Van Gisbergen said.

“It’s all about keeping it simple, making sure we stick to what we know works and not getting too crazy.

“It didn’t quite go to plan in Perth. I didn’t qualify well for the second race on Saturday, and the safety car came at the wrong time for us on Sunday, but the main thing is we have a fast car.”

Van Gisbergen was on the podium at Winton in 2014, finishing second in the first race before mechanical issues put him 20th and 12th in the remaining two races.

The 3.0km regional Victorian track has the lowest average speed of the V8 Supercars tracks because of its tight, twisty nature, and Van Gisbergen said it allows for plenty of overtaking opportunities.

“It’s a narrow circuit but you’ll see a lot of passing. Winton always puts on exciting racing, especially in the longer, strategy races,” Van Gisbergen said.

This weekend also sees the end of an era for Van Gisbergen, with his current Holden due to be retired at the end of the weekend.

“I'm a bit sad to race this VF Commodore for the last time because it’s been my most successful car in in V8 Supercars, with seven championship race wins and three more at the Australian Grand Prix. It's given me a lot of great memories.”

Van Gisbergen heads to the Winton SuperSprint sixth in points, 122 points off the leader Craig Lowndes.

Two-60km Sprints take place on Saturday, with a 200km feature on Sunday.
