Lucas Oils is celebrating a triple victory with reigning Australian Super Gas Champion Matt Forbes, up and coming Junior Dragster driver Dylan Leo and Sprintcar racer Jamie Veal all claiming wins on the weekend.
Forbes, who debuted his new Lucas Oil ’57 Corvette Roadster at the Fuchs Springnationals at Adelaide International Raceway, defeated Peter Datsun in the Super Gas elimination final, maintaining his 12-month winning streak.
“The Lucas Oil Corvette was fast and predictable all weekend. I knew after testing on Wednesday it was going to be strong, but I didn’t expect it to be good as it was in its first event in Australia,” Forbes said.
The Ballarat driver now heads to Sydney for the Australian Nationals on 31 October – 2 November and is optimistic of securing back-to-back Super Gas championships.
“It was great to debut this car with a win, and it’s given me a lot of confidence heading into the Nationals round at Sydney Dragway.”
In Queensland, 15-year-old Leo claimed the Benaraby Nationals off the back off his win last weekend at Ironbark Raceway in his Lucas Oil Junior Dragster.
Leo defeated Alexis Barbeler in the Junior Dragster final at Gladstone’s Benaraby Raceway, running the eighth mile in 7.934 seconds at 80.65 mph while Barbeler was disqualified for a red light start.
Veal started his 2014/15 Speedway season with a convincing win at Sydney Speedway in a flag-to-flag 30 lap A main.
After starting from the second row, Veal chased down Toby Bell-Bowen on lap 10, passing him for the lead and remaining unchallenged for the rest of the race.
“It was really tough through lapped traffic, but my crew set up the SWI Engineering/ Lucas Oil Maxim perfectly and I was able to move around the track easily and run different lines,” Veal said.
“I love racing at Parramatta, it’s always strong competition so it great to start the season with a win.”
