READING, Pa. (Sept. 30) -- Competing in a professional division with races decided in inches, Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan is a firm believer that anything can and will happen during the NHRA Nationals this weekend in Reading.
Morgan is no stranger to the fast conditions that Maple Grove Raceway offers; mixed with the right weather conditions, the chance for the unthinkable to happen is there. While he may have won there before in another division, Morgan isn't ready to count his Lucas Oil Ford Mustang out of the hunt this weekend.
"I've won there before, just not in Pro Stock," Morgan said. "I could do it again this time, you never know. Anything can happen in these Pro Stock races; we've seen that many times. The field is so close together that it's anyone's race to win, even ours.
"We may not seem like likely candidates but we could surprise everyone. I have the other guys right where I want them, not suspecting a thing."
While his performance this season doesn't reflect what he knows he is capable of, Morgan is confident in the direction his car is finally headed after the race in St. Louis. With a clean weekend behind him, Morgan is ready to improve off of those results at Maple Grove Raceway.
"We may not have had any problems in St. Louis, but we still have a lot of work to do," Morgan said. "We've been working hard at the shop since we got back to get ready for Reading. Thursday I head to Streamline for an appearance and then it's off to the track.
"We'll be alright -- we always are."
Qualifying sessions are scheduled for 1:15 and 4:15 p.m., Friday, and 11:15 and 2:15 p.m., Saturday. Eliminations will start at approximately noon, Sunday, with both qualifying and elimination action broadcast on ESPN2 on tape-delay basis.
