The Lucas Oil Speedcar Title is one of Australia’s longest running motorsport events, and will take place at Premier Speedway for the first time in its rich 74-year history.

Victorians Braeden Palmer, Jason Donnelly and Lucas Oil’s own Andy Pearce will have the home ground advantage as Warrnambool regulars, but are bracing for the influx of competition.

Among those entered to date are former champions Neville Land and Nathan Smee.

West Aussie Lance won the title on home soil in 2013, while New South Welshman Smee claimed the title at Avalon Raceway in 2010, the last time it was held in Victoria.

American Alex Bright returns to Australia after finishing second to Adam Clarke in last year’s title, Bright joined by fellow countryman Tyler Thomas.

Defending Powri Speedcar Super Series champ Brett Thomas is aiming to become the first Queenslander to win the national title since 1985, while twice runner-up Troy Jenkins is chasing an elusive maiden title.

The first night’s racing will consist of three qualifying heats and preliminary features before a final round of heats the following night. The field will then be allocated into C, B and A Mains – with a pole shuffle setting the grid for the title decider.

The 74th Lucas Oil Australian Speedcar Championship takes place at Sungold Stadium, Warrnambool on Friday, 27 to Saturday, 28 February 2015.
